About this activity

Discover one of the biggest gorges in Europe, and unfold the treasures of the Flora and Fauna of Crete! Welcome to the Samaria Gorge Tour!

On this trip, our luxury bus takes you from the pick-up location and drives you directly to the Samaria gorge starting point, located in the area of Omalos, at an altitude of 1300 meters.

Before the sun rises, we enter the Samaria Gorge National Park where we get to cover the lengthy 16 kilometers of the trail towards the shores of South Crete and the Village of Agia Roumeli.

Bringing hiking boots and Hiking sticks will help you endure the wilderness of Cretan nature, while a healthy lunch, sunscreen and a hat will be of good use too.

A stop for refreshing water in the various stops along the Samaria Gorge Hike will keep us hydrated while stopping throughout the gorge is recommended for muscle relaxation and bird watching.

You have to also keep an eye on the rock formations all over the bus excursion to Samaria Gorge, as you may likely see the Indigenous Cretan Goats, called “Kri- Kri”, which are native to Crete.

In the middle of the excursion to the Samaria Gorge, you will find the old settlement of Samaria: This is an old establishment, where Cretans used to live there and we suggest at least a 30 minute stop there. The friendly guards of the Gorge will inform you about its history and the river creeks nearby will astonish you. We could say that this is Cretan Nature at its finest!

Continuing our descent from 1300 meters to sea level, we reach the village of Agia Roumeli where we can enjoy a swim in crystal clear waters, and a lovely lunch at the traditional sea view taverns. By afternoon, we catch the Samaria Gorge Ferry, the vessel that will transfer you from this seashore village to Sfakia, where our bus will be waiting for you to get you back to your hotels. This full-day exhausting trip is well worth the pain and will be the highlight of your holidays in Crete!
