Gavalochori Village – A must-visit in Chania, Crete

Gavalochori Village is situated on the east side of Chania and is only 45 minutes away from our travel and tour agency in Chania: It is an ideal place for an afternoon walk, as it combines the traditional Venetian architecture, the impeccable views of the hills and valleys of mainland Chania and the neighbouring regions, and also has a lot of things to discover in Chania, such as an ancient olive mill. A relaxing light lunch (or preferably dinner) may be tasted in the numerous taverns and small “kafeneio” (coffee shops) that are around the village square.

Vryses Village Chania – Enjoy the pure Cretan Life

Vryses is a neighbouring village, just 30 minutes away from Kokkino Chorio. It is one of the biggest villages of Apokoronas, as it is situated in a prominent place, just at the crossroad between Chania and the many beautiful villages of the south. This is why our tour guides always stop there on their way to Sfakia on their full-day excursions.

Vryses Village has an environment of impeccable beauty, as a large river passes through the village, meaning that many ducks, geese and other fauna are around. Endangered fauna can also be present in the vicinity, and you get a grade A opportunity to enjoy a coffee, a snack or a fresh yoghurt with honey in the shops near the river. Yoghurt with honey is a traditional Cretan speciality as it is made almost solely with goat’s milk, thus having a distinctive taste and low on fat (below 4%).

Enjoy a bath in Kalyves Beach

Kalyves Village can be accessed at the end of your trip for a rewarding swim in its crystal clear waters and sandy beach. Kalyves is a small fishermen’s village just 20 minutes away from the said Villages of Chania and through time, it has successfully retained its traditional and local character.
