This private hiking tour in Chania takes you a step further! An experienced hiker travels with you using the E4 European Long Distance Path in order to discover the hidden beauties and the untouched wilderness of the White Mountains of Crete!
Our personal and private hiking excursion takes place in the lowlands, the low altitudes of Chania city, where we start from sea level in order to conquer a mountain peak at an altitude of 1700 meters!
Our pickup truck is with us at all times, as we pass many beautiful and historic mountainous villages of Chania: A small stop for a quick breakfast is being done, as we start ascending to reach the foothills of the White Mountains of Chania.Â
Our private guide with hiking experience will explain the differences in Climate between North Crete and South Crete because of the white mountains, as we talk about the White Mountains of Crete, their dangerous gorges, the hostile areas and their proud mountain peaks, 50 of those with an altitude of over 2000 meters.
A short break at the mountainous and authentic Village of Omalos is being done, as we are ready to make an enduring hike to a Mountain Hiker’s Refuge at an altitude of 1700 meters. We grab our trekking poles and our hiking boots in order to make a 2-hour enduring hike.
 Despite its uphill nature, breathtaking views and crystal clear air breezes (whether it’s summer or wintertime) make our hike a lifetime experience. After a tedious (but worthwhile!) hike, we reach a stone hiker’s refuge of extreme beauty, on top of a mountain peak at an elevation of 1700 meters.
A light lunch and a coffee overlooking the highest peaks of the White Mountains (like Pachnes, Melindaou, Gingilos and many, many more) is our outstanding reward for ascending over 1700 meters in a matter of hours and making an enduring hike over the White Mountains of Crete and the E4 Path.Â
We remain at 1700 Meters for about two hours, enjoying taking photographs and seeing the snowy White Mountains even in the hot summer months! A lifetime experience and a highlight of this tour is the observance of both seas surrounding Crete, the sea of Crete (Mediterranean Sea) and the Libyan Sea which is located in the South Part of Crete. This high elevation will be surely remembered for a lifetime.
With our minds (and our photo cameras!) full of memories, we start descending into the lowlands, first by hiking back to the areas near the Gorge of Samaria and then boarding into the reliable pickup truck that will take us back to the city centre of Chania.

This tour is carefully planned to let everyone explore the mountain traditional life of Cretans. It is perfect for families, as it combines free authentic Cretan food ( a proper lunch and not a treat!), historical knowledge, and breathtaking views, and it covers the vast majority of the mountain range of the White Mountains. Hiking Experience is optional, however for safety reasons, sporty shoes or hiking boots with hiking sticks are thoroughly recommended
